Vitiligo definition-

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment in certain areas of the skin, resulting in white or pigmented patches. This occurs due to the destruction of melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing the pigment melanin. The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors.


Ayurveda offers various home remedies that are believed to support individuals with vitiligo, a condition characterized by the loss of pigment in the skin here are seven Ayurvedic home remedies that are commonly suggested for vitiligo:

  • Bakuchi (Psoralea Corylifolia):

Bakuchi seeds, also known as Psoralea seeds, are ground into a paste and applied topically on the affected areas. Exposure to sunlight is often recommended after applying this paste.

  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa):

Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. A paste made from turmeric and mustard oil can be applied to the affected skin.

  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale):

Ginger juice is believed to stimulate blood circulation. Consuming ginger juice or applying it to the affected areas may be recommended.

  • Copper-Infused Water:

Drinking water stored in a copper vessel overnight and consuming it in the morning is considered beneficial for various skin conditions, including vitiligo.

  • Neem (Azadirachta indica):

Neem leaves are known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Applying a paste made from neem leaves may be suggested.

  • Red Clay (Multani Mitti):

A mixture of red clay and ginger juice can be applied as a paste on the affected areas. It is believed to have a cooling effect on the skin.

  • Triphala (Three Fruits):

Triphala, a combination of three fruits (amla, haritaki, bibhitaki), is known for its detoxifying properties. Consuming Triphala powder with honey or applying a paste on the skin is considered in Ayurveda.
