In simple words, it is a mental illness. In this, the person does not control his mood and fast mood swings occur. If the person starts to be happy in some time, the mind becomes unhappy only after a while. The mood of a person changes in both happy and sad situations. Negative thoughts come in times of sadness.


What Causes Bipolar Disorder. There is no clear reason for this yet. But according to research, some of the reasons for this are as follows-

  1. Inherited traits

Genetic causes are considered among the major causes of bipolar disorder. If someone in the family is already suffering from this problem, then the probability of getting this disease increases in the coming generation.

  1. Biological differences

Physical changes in the brain are responsible for bipolar disorder. There is no significant information about these changes in research so far. Therefore, the search for its cause continues.



There is no definite symptom of a bipolar disorder. Its symptoms may vary from person to person. Its symptoms also change from time to time. Some of the main features are as follows.

  • Being very energetic or hyper active.
  • Feeling abnormally irritable.
  • Being overjoyed and over confident.
  • Talk too much or talk too little
  • Feeling restless.
  • To keep something going in the mind.
  • Always be indecisive.
  • Weight gain or rapid occurrence.
  • Loss of appetite.


In the treatment of bipolar disorder, first of all it is necessary to get a good psychiatrist to check. However there is no fixed treatment for bipolar disorder. But it can be divided into several stages.

1. Capturing the mood

In the treatment of bipolar disorder, special care is taken of how a person's mood is. When the mood is deteriorating or what kind of thoughts are coming in the mind, the right test is necessary.

This is the reason why psychiatrists keep a complete record of this. By keeping a record of the mood, it can be found out when the mind remains stable and when it deteriorates.


2. Physical test

A number of physical tests and investigations are performed after symptoms indicate a bipolar disorder. It also includes lab tests.


3. Psychological Counseling

Counseling is an important part of treatment in bipolar disorder. In this, the psychologist counseling the patient. During this time he tries to find out why the patient's state of mind is like this.

 Along with counseling, the mood is also examined through questionnaire for evaluation. These questionnaires can be either for the patient themselves or for their close ones. Originally its purpose is to know the patient deeply.


4. Treatment with medicines

A person suffering from bipolar disorder is also treated with drugs. Sometimes, these medicines have to be taken even if the patient is feeling better after some time.



There is no specific mention of bipolar disorder in Ayurveda. Charaka Samhita describes mania, which affects the mind, intellect, perception, knowledge, behavioral activities. Five types of mania are described in it. These disorders depend on the involvement of symptoms and defects, which can be associated with bipolar disorder. According to Ayurveda, there is excessive blood loss due to increasing vata and depression due to bile. Vata imbalance is the main cause of bipolar disorder. Because excessive vata creates conditions of fear, isolation, anxiety, nervousness, nervous breakdown, mood changes, insomnia, tremor and instability.

According to Ayurveda, in this disorder the person suffers from Vata imbalance and low vigor. Vata controls the brain and nervous system, on the other hand, ojus shows immunity, strength and stamina. This bipolar disorder arises due to an imbalance of the three biological properties (vata, pitta and kapha) as well as the qualities of consciousness (satva, rajas and tamas).

  • Keep a regular routine, such as taking food at one time per day and going to sleep at the same time every night.
  • Get enough sleep
  • Keep taking your medicines.
  • Learn about signs indicating depression or mania.

They help to pacify the nervous system and also help to increase mental and physical performance. In Ayurveda when there is an imbalance of three energies i.e. Vata, pitta, and Kapha, it leads to disease. Vata has a sub dosha named prana doshas which regulates the sensory perception, brain, and mind. Tarpak Kapha subtype of kapha, governs cerebrospinal fluid, sadhak pitta subtype of pitta doshas governs emotions and their impact on the heart. So any vitiation of these doshas leads to stress. It contains herbal ingredients Ghritkumari (Aloe barbadensis), Kali mirch (Piper nigrum), Giloy satav (Tinospora crdifolia), shudha kuchala, shudha shilajeet, shudha vatsnabh, shudh singraf.
