  • Celiac Disease is a Autoimmune disorder that can occur in genetically predisposed  people  where the ingestion of Gluten leads to damage in the small intestine.
  • Gluten is a protein found in wheat , barley and rye.
  • When people with celiac disease eat foods containing Gluten , their immune system responds  by  damaging  the  lining of the small intestine.


  • Celiac disease is caused by an abnormal immune reaction to Gluten . When someone with celiac disease eats gluten , their immune system responds by attacking the lining of the small intestine. This immune reaction damages the Villi , small finger - like projections that line the small intestine and are responsible for absorbing nutrients from food.         


Children with Celiac Disease  have signs include :

1. Swelling in abdomen

2. Constipation

3. Chronic diarrhea

4. Bloating

5. Nausea and vomiting

6 Weight loss

7. Anemia

8. Delayed puberty

9. Seizures
