Giloy, scientifically known as Tinospora cordifolia, is a remarkable herb deeply rooted in Ayurvedic medicine. With a rich history spanning centuries, it has earned the title of "Amrita" or the "root of immortality" due to its potent healing properties


Giloy is a deciduous, climbing shrub that belongs to the Menispermaceae family. It is predominantly found in the tropical regions of India, as well as other parts of Southeast Asia. This herb is characterized by heart-shaped leaves and aerial roots, which give it a distinct appearance.


Giloy possesses an impressive array of properties that make it a valuable asset in traditional medicine:

  • Rasa (Taste): It is bitter and astringent in taste.
  • Guna (Quality): It is light and dry.
  • Virya (Potency): It has ushna virya, meaning it has a heating potency.
  • Vipaka (Metabolic Property): It undergoes madhura vipaka, which means it has a sweet taste conversion after digestion.
  • Dosha (Ayurvedic Humor): It balances all three doshas, particularly pacifying pitta and kapha doshas.
  • Dhatu (Tissue): It primarily acts on the rakta (blood) and majja (bone marrow) dhatus.


Giloy is a versatile herb known for its numerous health benefits:

  • Immunity Booster: One of its most celebrated attributes is its ability to enhance the immune system. It stimulates the production and activity of white blood cells, thereby improving the body's defense mechanisms
