BAKUCHI

ABOUT THE HERB :

Bakuchi, also known as Psoralea corylifolia, is a plant commonly used in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda. Bakuchi is primarily valued for its medicinal properties. The seeds and oil derived from Bakuchi seeds are the most commonly used parts. Bakuchi is often used in the treatment of skin conditions such as vitiligo and psoriasis. It is believed to help repigment the skin in cases of vitiligo. The seeds of Bakuchi contain a compound called psoralen, which is known to be effective in treating skin disorders. Psoralen is photosensitive, which means it becomes active when exposed to UV light, making it useful in certain therapies. In Ayurvedic medicine, Bakuchi is used in various formulations and remedies for skin and hair care. It is believed to have a rejuvenating effect on the skin.

PROPERTIES OF BAKUCHI :

Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) has several properties that make it valuable in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda. Here are some of its key properties:

  • Anti-Inflammatory: Bakuchi possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which is beneficial in reducing inflammation, especially in skin conditions.
  • Photosensitive: One of its unique properties is that it contains psoralen, a photosensitive compound. Psoralen becomes active when exposed to UV light, which is utilized in certain therapies for skin disorders like vitiligo.
  • Antioxidant: Bakuchi have antioxidant properties, which help in neutralizing harmful free radicals and protecting the body from oxidative stress.
  • Immunomodulatory: It has immunomodulatory effects, it can influence the immune system's response. This property is relevant in the treatment of autoimmune skin disorders.

BENIFITS OF BAKUCHI :

BAKUCHI IN VITILIGO :

  • Bakuchi has been used for the treatment of Shwitra. The rasa of Bakuchi  is  Katu & Tikta,  Katu  Vipaka and Ruksha  Guna,  the  powder  and  extract  have  strong antioxidant properties. Bavachin and psoralidin has inhibitory against antigen induced granulation. In the Shwitra, Sroto-Dushti is removed by the Katu-Tikta Rasa, Ruksha Guna, Katu Vipaka of the  Bakuchi and it also increases the blood circulation locally, thus provides nutrition to the cells present there and helps in the adequate formation of Bhrajaka Pitta in the skin. Bakuchi’s contents increases the rate of synthesis and amount of melanin and hence encouraging skin to recover from a vitiliginous state. The use of sunlight in early morning on affected area of skin because it has content  of ultraviolet rays and  with Bakuchi leads to favourable  milieu  for  encouraging  the  growth  of  melanocyte  migration  and  stimulates proliferation.  It  not  jusr helps  in  proliferation  of  melanocyte  but  also  prevents  the autoimmune activity disease. The mode of action on skin is depends on the nature of drugs used. The nature of Ushna leads to reduction of Kapha and Vata Dosh and Laghu, Ruksha Guna  subside  the Kapha Guna.  Katu  Vipaka helps the  Shodhana  of Srotas.  Also  Ushna properties  helps  the  Agnideepan  and    It  has  properties  of  like  Kushthaghna, Kaphvatahar and making promote shining in skin (Twachya). The effect of Bakuchi churna is very effective in Shwitra without any adverse effect on body, on any system or organ. The use of sun light is additive effect to promote the melanocyte formation.
