Leech Therapy in Ayurveda
Leech therapy, known as Jalaukavacharana in Ayurveda, is a form of bloodletting treatment where medicinal leeches are used to treat various conditions. This therapy is part of the broader Panchakarma treatment and has been practiced in Ayurveda for thousands of years. Leeches secrete saliva containing over 60 bioactive substances that have anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, and anesthetic properties, which are beneficial for health.
