Reasons for Back Pain

1. Muscle or ligament strain: Lifting heavy objects improperly or sudden awkward movements can strain back muscles and spinal ligaments.
2. Bulging or ruptured discs: Discs act as cushions between the bones (vertebrae) in the spine. The soft material inside a disc can bulge or rupture and press on a nerve.
3. Arthritis: Osteoarthritis can affect the lower back. In some cases, arthritis in the spine can lead to a narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, a condition called spinal stenosis.
4. Skeletal irregularities: Conditions like scoliosis, a curvature of the spine, can lead to back pain.
5. Osteoporosis: If the bones become porous and brittle, the spine's vertebrae can develop painful fractures.
6. Poor posture: Poor posture over time can cause back pain by stressing the muscles and spine.
7. Sedentary lifestyle: Lack of physical activity can weaken the back muscles and lead to pain.

Ayurvedic Approach to Treat Back Pain


Ayurveda treats back pain by addressing the root cause and bringing the body back into balance through lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, dietary adjustments, and Panchakarma therapies. The treatment often involves the following steps:

1. Dosha Assessment: Identify the aggravated doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) through Nadi Pareeksha (pulse diagnosis) or other diagnostic methods.
2. Diet and Lifestyle Changes: Based on the individual's dosha imbalance, specific dietary and lifestyle changes are recommended to balance the doshas.
3. Herbal Remedies: Ayurvedic herbs such as Ashwagandha, Guggulu, Shallaki, and others are used to reduce inflammation, strengthen the muscles, and support overall health.

1. Nerve up tablet:

These tablets are pure ayurvedic formulation. Nerve up tablets help in balancing the vata doshas and kapha dosha. It acts as nervine stimulant. It shows effective results in improving the central nervous system. It contains natural ingredients like shudha kuchala, shudha shilajeet, praval pishti, shankh bhasma etc. This tablet helps in Backache, kneepain, headache, bronchitis, depression.

Recommended Dosage– Take 1 tablet twice daily.

2. Back Care tablet:

Back Care tablet is an herbal and purely Ayurvedic formulation. This tablet helps by strengthening your back muscles in relieving back pain whether it be by sciatica, arthritis, kidney infections, infection of the spine and cancer of spinal cord. It helps to pacify Vata dosha and also helps in maintaining proper blood circulation. This is often used for mild to moderate pain all over the body and relaxes your muscles. It contains herbs that act as natural pain relievers.

Recommended Dosage – Take 1 tablet twice daily.

3. Panchasakar Churna:

Panchsakar Churana is an Ayurvedic formulation that consists of five ingredients named as – Saindhavan Lavana – (Rock Salt), Swarnapatri – (Cassia angustifolia), Shatapushpa – (Anethum sowa), Shunti – (Zingiber officinale), Balaharitaki – (Unripe fruits of Terminalia chebula).Panchasakar Churna is naturally detoxifying, thus it removes the toxins from the body. The churna has an anti – inflammatory properties due to which it can reduces the swelling. It is also effective in reducing the weight, which can help to reduce the pressure on lumbar area.

Recommended DosageTake 1 teaspoonful with Luke warm water at bedtime.

4. Pain-O-Kill Oil:

This herbal oil contain ingredients like – Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata), Kustha (Saussurea lappa), Jyotishmati (Celastrus paniculatus), Vatsnabh (Aconitum ferox), Devdaru (Cedrus deodara) etc. This oil is an Ayurvedic medicine which gives best result in all types of pain. It is beneficial for the muscle relaxant, sports injury, low back pain, weakness, etc. This oil has a good result in reducing the inflammation.

Method of Usage – It is applied on the affected portion of the body and massage with light pressure. Do this procedure twice a day.

5. Pain O Kill Tablet:

Pain o kill tablet is ayurvedic and purely herbal formulation. It help to relax your muscles and muscles cramps thus relieving pain. Panchakarma Therapies for Back Pain

Panchakarma is a set of five detoxification therapies aimed at cleansing the body of toxins (ama) and balancing the doshas. For back pain, specific Panchakarma therapies are recommended:

1. Abhyanga (Ayurvedic Massage): This involves a full-body massage with warm medicated oils to improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and lubricate the joints.

2. Swedana (Sudation Therapy): This involves inducing sweat through steam or warm herbal poultices to relieve stiffness, improve circulation, and remove toxins.

3. Kati Basti: A special therapy where warm medicated oil is held on the lower back within a dough ring to alleviate pain and nourish the tissues.

4. Basti (Medicated Enema): This is considered the most effective treatment for Vata disorders. It involves administering medicated oils or decoctions through the rectum to balance Vata dosha and cleanse the colon.

5. Pizhichil (Oil Bath): A continuous stream of warm medicated oil is poured over the body, providing deep relaxation, nourishment, and pain relief.

6. Elakizhi (Leaf Bundle Massage): Herbal leaves are fried with several other herbs and tied into a bolus, dipped in warm oil, and applied to the body. This helps in relieving muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain.
